The Nature Of Sound – Guided Meditation

The Nature Of Sound – Guided Meditation

The Nature Of Sound – A Guided Meditation

Duration – 4 min – 10 min

Mother Nature in all her wisdom provides us with everything we need to grow and thrive. The sounds made by the natural world are there to help tune the body to the frequency of the earth, the planets and the stars. A secret symphony that guides our health and wellbeing and leads us to connect with the spirit of who and what we are.

  • Develop your natural ability to self heal by listening mindfully to each and every sound as it is made and then dissipates. Allow your breath to be the invisible tether that keeps you connected to the present moment and to your body.
  • If you get lost come back to the earth where you sit and the beating of your own heart. Follow the songs of the natural world to find a prayer that is unique to you.

Used for millennia as a gateway to self-mastery and a tool for self-healing, self-awareness and self-realisation, the breath sits at the centre of what determines real, and unreal. Harnessing the breath gives you the power to reshape the mind and body, bend space and time and extend your life.

Most of us never pay attention to the way we breathe and haven’t the faintest clue that the way we breathe impacts every single facet of our life on earth. From how well our body functions, to our moods, our chemistry, our relationships and the career we choose; our breath is a compass for the direction we take in life.

When you breathe your body takes in vital oxygen which ignites the cells in your body – helping them to release energy and drive the activities of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems.

The balance of the inhalation and the exhalation is vital to the stability of the brain and the body and your life – because your internal imbalances become your external ones as well – a balanced breath keeps a balanced mind.

Pranayama is as an esoteric and energetic practice with a range of techniques that enhance your physiology and your psychology. Some methods can warm you up, cool you down, keep you alert, put you to sleep and keep you alive without the need for food and water.

Pranayama is a branch of the yoga tree and is fundamental to experiencing the unification of mind and body. (Which is in fact is what yoga is; the unification of the mind and body using thebreath).  In practicing pranayama you learn to extend the length of the breath in a range of different techniques and eventually minimise the amount of breathing you do. The longer and deeper you breathe increases the length and quality of your life.

Pranic practices have the potential to alter your sensory perceptions, your biology and keep you in suspended animation – with some yogis like Sadguru, sitting for 12 days in a trance without food and water. Along with the potential to transcend the mind and the physical body – Pranayama practices have the potential to upgrade your mental software, increasing your intelligence and your awareness and lead you to the path of spiritual enlightenment.

Rather than examining what takes your breath away, Sundar Balasubramanian, a radiation oncology researcher studies what breath gives you. A deep breath relaxes, and he explains it creates significant beneficial changes in physiologically relevant biomarkers.

Just Breathe

Just Breathe

The breath is a quiet observer to how you think and feel and how healthy you are in mind and body; short, shallow breathing reveals anxiety, high blood pressure, poor digestion, irritability and emotional instability. And a deep long and sumptuous breath is often the opposite and reflects a harmonious and balanced approach in mind and body and emotional stability.

Just like everything we consume – the breath can either be a medicine or a poison; depending on how you use it. If your breathing is short and restricted will increase acidity as well as activate your sympathetic nervous system – keeping you anxious and edgy all day. Learning how to breathe properly to enhance the quality of your life and improve your health and wellbeing.

Seeing things as they really are

Mindfulness is a style of mediation derived from Tibetan Buddhist practices of  Vippasana, (which means to see things as they really are). A lot of what we experience is filtered through the lens of our own emotions, expectations, awareness and cognitive bias.

Mindfulness style meditation helps to separate our attachments to thoughts, feelings and emotions and help us to look upon the world in a more objective way. It gives us greater clarity which means we have a more positive outlook and the skill to navigate our attention and our choices.

Mindfulness helps us to maintain concentration so we then recognise when our mind is wandering off. We also can then observe the fluctuation of negative thoughts and feelings without bias and through effort retrain the mind to be more positive.

Practising mindfulness daily has been proven to increase working memory which means information is stored in long-term memory which helps students to perform better in exams, cope with stress and perform tasks that require prolonged attention.
